On the afternoon of May 20th, Professor Chen Zhesheng from Saint John University and Researcher Zhang Junmin from Beijing Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, gave reports in Animal Science Lecture of our College. This report was hosted by Professor Jiang Qing Yan from College of Animal Sciences, and about 100 students and teachers from College of Animal Science, College of Life Science and College of Veterinary attended the lecture
The topic of Professor Chen Zhesheng's report is "ABC transporters: Drug Resistance and Physiology". After introducing ABC transporters’ transporter family, structure, distribution and function, Professor Chen expounds the relationship between tumor multi drug resistance and ABC transporters. Finally, Professor Chen introduced the relationships among multidrug resistance associated protein, Dubin-Johnson Syndrome and pseudoxanthoma elasticum etc.
Professor Zhang Junmin made a report entitled as "Feed Safety Evaluation and the Research Progress of Quality and Safety of Animal Products ". Firstly, he described safety evaluation and utilization of cottonseed meal, non- metallic minerals (montmorillonite, attapulgite). Then Professor Zhang used a large number of experimental data to reveal the distribution and metabolism and the rule of residues of β- repector agonist (clenbuterol, ractopamine and salbutamol) in beef cattle and found that hair can be used for the supervision of clenbuterol residues in beef cattle.
Finally, the present teachers and students actively ask questions about ABC transporters and MDR reversal strategy, vesicular transport test and determination of gossypol content, etc.. The answers from two experts enable them to have a deep understanding of the relationship between the tumor multi drug resistance and ABC transporters, rational use of cottonseed meal and safety evaluation of livestock product.
