On the morning of September 6, 2018, a opening ceremony was held for the 2018 freshmen by College of Animal Science in the lecture hall on the third floor of Wen's Building. Vice President of South China Agricultural University Xian Chunlong, Secretary of the Party Committee College of Animal Science Wu Yatai, Dean Jiang Qingyan, Deputy Secretary Zhang Haiping, Associate Dean Huang Qingsheng, Xie Qingmei, Nie Qinghua, Director of each department, head teachers of freshmen, dean of studies and counselors attended the ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Zhang Haiping. Vice President Xian Chunlong expressed his heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to the freshmen who achieved the excellent scores in the entrance exam. There are three points in the his speech: First, ambition. He proposed that it is necessary to closely link the development of the individual with the progress of our country and the prosperity of the nation. The driving ambition and action of freshmen will interpret the responsibility of an agricultural university, and help them to build a successful career in their precious life. Second, diligence. He encouraged the freshmen to learn diligently and work hard in the laboratory, training base, and classroom; at the same time, exercise more, and be physically active in morning exercises, color runs, military training and other activities. Third, virtue. He highlighted that it is necessary to closely combine correct moral cognition, conscious moral development, and positive moral practice; and it is vital to consciously establish and practice socialist core values, and take the lead in advocating a good social atmosphere. Dean Jiang Qingyan introduced the history of College of Animal Science, discipline construction, teaching and research to the freshmen, and made several suggestions to the freshmen: 1. love our motherland and love the Chinese Communist Party; 2. study hard, obey the laws and regulations; adapt to university life as soon as possible, 3. strengthen awareness of safety and prevention; 4. cultivate good ideology and morality; 5. actively participate in beneficial activities, comprehensively exercise, improve overall quality; 6. establish lofty goals and be determined to become talented. The representative of the freshmen, Mr. Hao Haoqi, and the representative of the senior classmates, Li Jie, delivered their speech respectively. Professor Ma Jingyun, a teacher representative, shared his own learning experience and the his impression of South China Agricultural University. He encouraged the freshmen to set goals and plan as early as possible, read more, learn more, and spend a perfect university life.
